I only do human commissions for friends these days. And friends will be the only people I will ever do wedding dress commissions for, as I could only put myself through that level of stress for people I love.
I made this dress for my friend Hooli a couple of months ago. We had five weeks to make the dress before she flew back to Malaysia for her wedding. And as per usual, the design changed as I was working on it and saw that what we had originally designed wasn't going to be as effective as we thought. But I'm happy with the outcome. And I got to finally see it on her in person today at her Australian wedding celebration, and it looks ten times better on her than on the mannequin (it helps she has a teensy waist that gives the top that much more shape!)
The outfit consists of a silk dupion corset, lightly spiral boned for support, covered in a layer of tulle, with beaded lace accents the centre front, top edge and faux hip gussets. The princess line skirt is made of silk georgette, and has a detachable silk organza skirt with more beaded lace detail.
The beaded lace is all hand appliqued and rebeaded (the beads were coming up as I cut up the pieces, so I had to rebead them to secure the beads as I went along), and took a week of work in itself. Invisible thread is my enemy! XDD
